The Paper Birds’ Co-Director Jemma McDonnell spoke to us and gave us 5 Facts about Feel Me and why you should see the show!
“So we’re coming to Leeds Playhouse in November and our first fun fact, Numero Uno is:
- We were established and based in Leeds for a very large amount of our company life! We used to go to Bretton Hall and when we finish Bretton Hall we moved into Leeds City centre and that’s where we started up The Paper Birds and we lived there for many years I think I lived there for 9 years and I think Kylie lived there for a little bit longer so yeah Leeds has got a very special place in her heart because this is where everything started!
- There are phone interactions within Feel Me – so we ask the audience to bring a mobile phone with them, keep it switched on and then at points in the show you use your mobile phone to tell us what you think and feel about what you are watching, and we see all the results come up live. We’re also working with some academics to look at the results of all of your answers within the show and after the show if you stay in touch, so hopefully we’re seeing if we’ve made an impact by making the show and your response to it.
- The audience apart from the phone interactions you guys also play are quite an important part in one of the scenes so it’s very important that you’re there and that we have an audience because there is a scene in which we come down into the audience and we use the audience it’s a very integral and very fun and funny part of the show.
- We made a documentary while we were making this show. People are always really interested in our process, so we thought why not share it? So while we were making the show we filmed sections of what we were doing, and we made a short documentary about the process and all that people involved – it’s part of a package called Navigate on our website and we’re really proud of it because it’s really nice for people to see you know not just to finish show but how we did it.
- And finally fact number 5 some of our collaborators and our steering groups that we made the show with actually feature in the piece – so we’ve been working with an arts centre in Indonesia for a number of years and some of the young people who are in one of our steering groups appear and some of the academics we worked with appear, so yeah keep your eyes peeled for those as well. We really hope that you can make it and that you enjoyed hearing a little bit more about the show – see you soon!”
