Beneath a freezing Northern night sky, streetwise teenager Connor McAllen searches desperately for a lost loved one. In defiance of his corporate parent, he scours the city’s grim underbelly in vain. Hot on Connor’s heels is newcomer police officer Louis Mortimer. If Louis is to pull Connor back from the brink, he must come to terms with his troubled past. Life isn’t made any easier by his feelings for Elliott, Connor’s handsome teacher or Damien, Louis’ brooding colleague.

As Connor bounces from one failed foster placement to another, none of the professionals involved in safeguarding him see the peril lurking in the shadows: a dangerous sadist is watching Louis and Connor’s every move, determined to show them that ‘care and control’ has its dark side.

Roshan Pitteea has spent most of his adult life working in the safeguarding area. After completing his MA in Social Work at the University of Bradford in 2011, he worked for Leeds City Council as a child protection social worker. Roshan quickly attained Advanced Practitioner status due to his work on several complex cases. He also developed a specialism for interviewing and assessing child sex offenders, consolidating this with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Forensic Psychology & Behavioural Analysis.

With his love of creative writing and a fertile imagination that skews towards the macabre, a book like Care & Control from Roshan was inevitable. He has used his knowledge of social work, psychology, and crime to develop authentic characters who move within a gritty backdrop that will feel familiar to anyone who knows the North of England.

Roshan is keen to explore contemporary societal issues such as child welfare, abuse, and discrimination through his writing. His interest in intersectionality can be seen within the diverse characters of his fictional universe.
