More Information on 2021 Papatango Prize Audio Tour

We are delighted to be hosting the audio tour of the three winners of the 2021 Papatango Prize in partnership with Papatango and ETT. By turns poignant, funny and captivating, these three plays represent the very best of new writing. Pick up a tablet from our Box Office or scan a QR code into your own device to listen.

Nkenna Akunna’s Some Of Us Exist In The Future

Chiamaka is new to all this. Fresh off the plane from the UK, she’s new to Brooklyn and its extremes. She’s new to queer dating. She’s new to being an immigrant. Most of all, she’s new to the voice of the god. Utterly original, wryly funny and always gripping, Some Of Us Exist In The Future follows one woman’s journey to find her place in a world that’s not all it seems.

Suitable for ages 14+. Contains references to drug use, mental illnesss, racism, homophobia, and some strong language.

Tajinder Singh Hayer’s Ghost Stories From An Old Country

Dalvir has always told a good ghost story, properly unsettling dark tales to send a chill right through his younger brother Amar. But now Dalvir’s almost a ghost himself, cloistered and secretive. Amar desperately wants to reconnect with the only family he has left, but can he unravel Dalvir’s stories to find a way back to his brother? Threaded with captivating fables, Ghost Stories From An Old Country is a riveting and poignant exploration of the ties that bind us.

Suitable for ages 12+. Contains discussions of mental health, suicide, therapy and loss.

Tom Powell’s The Silence and The Noise

Every teenager knows what it’s like to be stuck between things: childhood and maturity, innocence and experience, hope for the future and uncertainty about what that will be. But Daize is torn between even greater challenges: her love for her vulnerable mother and her dangerous friendship with Ant. An outsider with knockout trainers, Ant has just appeared on her doorstep, bringing with him a whole world of trouble. The Silence and the Noise captures the story of two young people on the edge.

Suitable for ages 14+. Contains strong language, with some references to violence, drug abuse, and domestic abuse.

This event is part of our Furnace Festival 2021 – a week-long celebration of new work by new artists.

Captioned Performance

Open captioning allows theatre goers with varying degrees of hearing to view the full text as it is spoken or sung, including sound effects and off stage noises. These appear on a scrolling screen, positioned on or at the side of the stage.

British Sign Language Interpreted

A signed performance is the usual full production using either the creative use of sign integrated into the performance or a British Sign Language Interpreter on stage interpreting the show for D/deaf attendees.

Audio Described

Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attendees. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the customer can wear a headset and listen to a live description of the action on stage.

Relaxed Performance

A relaxed performance is a specially selected show from our programme, with slight adaptations to make it suitable for an audience of young people or adults with learning disabilities. This may include extra lighting, additional wheelchair spaces and the freedom to move to alternative seating if required.

Dementia-Friendly Performance

Dementia friendly performances are for all audiences. The theatre experience is enhanced for people living with dementia and their supporters, with adaptations to front of house service, the show and pre-show information packs. Additional dementia-aware staff, quiet spaces, clear signage and visual markers, sound and lighting adjustments and flexible seating options all help to create a supportive, shared experience.

Sing Along

Singalong with the cast in this exclusive performance. Join in as loud as you like, fancy dress is optional but highly recommended.

Post Show Discussion

Parent & Baby Performance

A Parent and Baby performance enables parents to attend the theatre with their baby (under 12 months). We make small adaptations to the lighting and sound effects, including keeping the auditorium lights slightly raised. The seating is unallocated and there is a relaxed attitude to noise.

*A transaction fee of £2.50 will be applied to all phone and internet bookings.
