More Information on A Christmas Carol: At Home
The show will be available to watch from 7pm on Mon 21 Dec – 7pm on 25 Dec. This includes captioned and Audio Described versions of the show.
It’s Christmas Eve in Victorian Leeds, but the cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge hasn’t an ounce of festive cheer.
As the cold night draws in, four ghostly spirits take Ebenezer on a magical journey through his past, his present and his future, hoping to show him the error of his ways. With Christmas spirit, fun, music and magic at its heart, this timeless Charles Dickens tale is brought vividly to life.
With all the joys of a festive family story, the Playhouse is reinventing this production of A Christmas Carol from the Pop-Up Season in 2018, based on an original production at Hull Truck Theatre. Adapted by playwright Deborah McAndrew and directed by Playhouse Associate Director Amy Leach (There Are No Beginnings, Oliver Twist).
BSL is integrated into the storytelling of the pre-recorded performance. Your purchase also gives you access to an audio described version of the show. It’s a creative approach from Hear The Picture, so enjoy if you have a visual impairment or not. A Christmas Carol: At Home is also captioned.
Everyone will get the same view of the show regardless of the ticket they buy, however we ask you to consider paying what you normally would for a night out at the theatre.
Will more than one person be watching? It’s possible to watch together with just one link so if you feel able please consider buying a couple of tickets or making a donation when booking or after the show.
Please note ticket sales close on 23 Dec at 7pm
A Christmas Carol: At Home will be available to watch as soon as you’ve purchased your ticket and you will have access for 48hrs after the time you have booked for. You can watch at any time that suits you, and as often as you like.
A signed performance is the usual full production using either the creative use of sign integrated into the performance or a British Sign Language Interpreter on stage interpreting the show for D/deaf attendees.Audio Described
Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attendees. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the customer can wear a headset and listen to a live description of the action on stage.Relaxed Performance
A relaxed performance is a specially selected show from our programme, with slight adaptations to make it suitable for an audience of young people or adults with learning disabilities. This may include extra lighting, additional wheelchair spaces and the freedom to move to alternative seating if required.Dementia-Friendly Performance
Dementia friendly performances are for all audiences. The theatre experience is enhanced for people living with dementia and their supporters, with adaptations to front of house service, the show and pre-show information packs. Additional dementia-aware staff, quiet spaces, clear signage and visual markers, sound and lighting adjustments and flexible seating options all help to create a supportive, shared experience.Sing Along
Singalong with the cast in this exclusive performance. Join in as loud as you like, fancy dress is optional but highly recommended.Post Show Discussion
Parent & Baby Performance
A Parent and Baby performance enables parents to attend the theatre with their baby (under 12 months). We make small adaptations to the lighting and sound effects, including keeping the auditorium lights slightly raised. The seating is unallocated and there is a relaxed attitude to noise.
*A transaction fee of £2.50 will be applied to all phone and internet bookings.
