More Information on A Little Night Music

A chance meeting between ex-lovers sparks a game of romantic musical chairs over a weekend in the country, as hopelessly mismatched couples find themselves confronted by their own vanities and deceptions.

Glistening with wit and romance, composer Sondheim’s tantalising tale flirts with musical theatre and opera, and includes the classic song ‘Send in the Clowns’

This new production is the latest collaboration between Opera North and Leeds Playhouse following the critically acclaimed Into the Woods (2016). Featuring Opera North favourites, the Company’s award-winning Chorus and directed by the Playhouse’s Artistic Director James Brining, expect a glorious evening that is heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure.

All performances of this production will be with a socially distanced audience.

Important information about performances of A Little Night Music Wed 14 – Sat 17 July

Leeds Playhouse has been chosen to be one of the few selected venues for the UK Government’s Events Research Programme pilot scheme to further knowledge about reopening theatres safely to inform how full audiences can return to live performances and help theatres reopen from step 4 of the roadmap. This means for performances from Wednesday 14 July to Saturday 17 July inclusive, as with other pilot events, we will be working closely with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport so evidence can be gathered on:

  • Air ventilation
  • Audience movement
  • Coronavirus transmission
  • The NHS App COVID Pass

What will this mean to audiences at A Little Night Music?

Everyone attending will be required to provide proof of either:

  • proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, both doses received at least 14 days prior to the performance; or
  • proof of a negative NHS COVID-19 Lateral Flow Device (LFD) within 48 hours of the performance; or
  • proof of natural immunity based upon a positive PCR test taken within 180 days of the performance (including 10 days self-isolation following the result).

You can prove your COVID-status via the NHS app or a text or email test result from the NHS following a Lateral Flow Test.

Captioned Performance

Open captioning allows theatre goers with varying degrees of hearing to view the full text as it is spoken or sung, including sound effects and off stage noises. These appear on a scrolling screen, positioned on or at the side of the stage.

British Sign Language Interpreted

A signed performance is the usual full production using either the creative use of sign integrated into the performance or a British Sign Language Interpreter on stage interpreting the show for D/deaf attendees.

Audio Described

Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attendees. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the customer can wear a headset and listen to a live description of the action on stage.

Relaxed Performance

A relaxed performance is a specially selected show from our programme, with slight adaptations to make it suitable for an audience of young people or adults with learning disabilities. This may include extra lighting, additional wheelchair spaces and the freedom to move to alternative seating if required.

Dementia-Friendly Performance

Dementia friendly performances are for all audiences. The theatre experience is enhanced for people living with dementia and their supporters, with adaptations to front of house service, the show and pre-show information packs. Additional dementia-aware staff, quiet spaces, clear signage and visual markers, sound and lighting adjustments and flexible seating options all help to create a supportive, shared experience.

Sing Along

Singalong with the cast in this exclusive performance. Join in as loud as you like, fancy dress is optional but highly recommended.

Parent & Baby Performance

A Parent and Baby performance enables parents to attend the theatre with their baby (under 12 months). We make small adaptations to the lighting and sound effects, including keeping the auditorium lights slightly raised. The seating is unallocated and there is a relaxed attitude to noise.

Booking Fees:

*A transaction fee of £2.50 will be applied to all phone and internet bookings.
