More Information on Queen of Chapeltown
Queen of Chapeltown draws on first-hand accounts with founding members of the much loved carnival to tell the story of not only carnival but the community who became its driving force, the tales of migration and deep roots stretching across the Atlantic, Africa and beyond.
Jamaican writer, playwright and producer Colin Grant weaves these stories together into an original play celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Leeds West Indian Carnival.
Directed by Amy Leach; Queen of Chapeltown follows the stories of those who campaigned, sewed and danced their way to the first carnival in 1967 and of one woman’s journey to become a Carnival Queen.
