Reviews

Why is the age recommendation 7+?

It’s a full-length production (over 2 hours) which can be difficult for young people with a shorter attention span. The play includes death, grief and peril, as well as more general mature themes that might not be totally appropriate for our youngest audiences. However, the age recommendation is just that – a recommendation. You are best placed to make a decision about what is appropriate for your students.

How do I book for a school group?

Please contact our Box Office on 0113 213 7700 or email groups@leedsplayhouse.org.uk to book in your school group to come and see a production. School prices for Wendy & Peter Pan are £15 per ticket and are only available for performances during the week. To help support your visit, we offer one FREE staff seat for every ten students booked.

What else do you offer schools?

We have 3 workshops on offer to support your students’ understanding of the play:

  • Creating Magic (Primary) – Inspired by the themes of the original tale, as well as the Playhouse’s re-imagining, this 2-hour workshop allows students to explore the power of drama to create magic! £180 (+VAT) per group.
  • The Magic of Theatre (Primary and Secondary) – A full day workshop introducing the different roles in the industry, including, special effects, and Meet the Professionals. £340 (+VAT) per group (max 33 students). Must be delivered at the Playhouse.
  • Re-Telling Tales (Secondary) – A 2-hour workshop exploring the process of reimagining stories to be more representative and inclusive. This workshop can be tailored to specific texts on request. £180 (+VAT) per group.

For more info or to book, please email creativeeducation@leedsplayhouse.org.uk

What about Covid-19 restrictions?

With the everchanging situation, we’re following government guidance and reviewing our processes regularly – this page has the latest Covid information about how we are keeping audiences safe. If you have specific questions, please get in touch with our Box Office Team. If you do find the situation at school changes, you can change the date of your tickets or credit your account for another performance.

Captioned Performance

Open captioning allows theatre goers with varying degrees of hearing to view the full text as it is spoken or sung, including sound effects and off stage noises. These appear on a scrolling screen, positioned on or at the side of the stage.

British Sign Language Interpreted

A signed performance is the usual full production using either the creative use of sign integrated into the performance or a British Sign Language Interpreter on stage interpreting the show for D/deaf attendees.

Audio Described

Audio Described performances are designed to improve the experience of visually impaired and blind attendees. As well as listening to the dialogue on stage the customer can wear a headset and listen to a live description of the action on stage.

Relaxed Performance

A relaxed performance is a specially selected show from our programme, with slight adaptations to make it suitable for an audience of young people or adults with learning disabilities. This may include extra lighting, additional wheelchair spaces and the freedom to move to alternative seating if required.

Dementia-Friendly Performance

Dementia friendly performances are for all audiences. The theatre experience is enhanced for people living with dementia and their supporters, with adaptations to front of house service, the show and pre-show information packs. Additional dementia-aware staff, quiet spaces, clear signage and visual markers, sound and lighting adjustments and flexible seating options all help to create a supportive, shared experience.

Sing Along

Singalong with the cast in this exclusive performance. Join in as loud as you like, fancy dress is optional but highly recommended.

Post Show Discussion

Parent & Baby Performance

A Parent and Baby performance enables parents to attend the theatre with their baby (under 12 months). We make small adaptations to the lighting and sound effects, including keeping the auditorium lights slightly raised. The seating is unallocated and there is a relaxed attitude to noise.

Socially Distanced

A guaranteed socially distanced performance provides seating with additional space between bubbles to allow appropriate social distancing.
