Playwriting Residencies

Paid writers residencies at Leeds Playhouse

Since 2015, Leeds Playhouse has offered short, paid residencies to over 20 writers, providing dramaturgical support and time and space to work on a new or existing play, to research, to collaborate on a specific question or project, or just to think.

These bespoke residencies are offered to individuals at very specific moments in their development and as such are by invitation to writers whose work we have read and with whom we have built a relationship.

“I cannot fully articulate how helpful having a little room of my own has been. The work I have got done in five days at the Playhouse would normally take me a month on my own in my bedroom or in cafés.”

– Olivia Hirst

If you would like to be considered for a residency, make sure we have read your work by submitting to a script window, get in touch to have a brew, join the Furnace Social Club and attend events and workshops, or apply for Summer Sublets or Scratch.

“The residency offered great encouragement and support without any sense of pressure.”

– Rebecca Manley
