Buzz Creative Arts Course
Mondays and Tuesdays (Term time)
A structured weekly group for younger people with learning disabilities who are interested in music, movement, drama, visual art and sensory sessions.
Be creative, join in, see friends - and make new ones - with our projects for people with PMLD, learning disabilities and Autism.
At Leeds Playhouse, we work very closely with parents and carers, people with PMLD, learning disabilities and Autism. You can come and see one of our relaxed performances, or join us for creative sessions that run as part of our year-round programme of projects.
A relaxed performance is a specially selected show from our programme.
We audit the show alongside members of the community with PMLD, learning disabilities and Autism and their supporters. From this, we can make adaptations to the show and theatre environment to make watching a performance more accessible. Possible changes may include brighter house lighting, additional wheelchair spaces, additional space in the auditorium for those who might need to move around and a sensory space with a screen showing the production.
A relaxed performance always includes a relaxed attitude to noise and sensory resources and tools to support our audiences in being able to engage with the story.
We also provide a Show Story that is an Easy Read tool which provides information on the characters, a brief synopsis and includes information on any potential lighting and sound triggers.

We are proud to have pioneered relaxed performances at Leeds Playhouse. They are integral to our commitment to our audience members with PMLD, learning disabilities and Autism and their champions.
Relaxed performances are supported by our Access Partner Irwin Mitchell.
Interaction Days are for people with PMLD, learning disabilities and Autism, and their families, carers and support workers.
It’s a great opportunity for you to familiarise yourself with the Playhouse building through an interactive self-led tour, to meet the people who work at the Playhouse, and to take part in sensory and creative sessions.
Among the activities to try are:
Interaction Days are usually on a Monday and run from 11am to 3pm.
