West Yorkshire Playhouse is hosting National Theatre New Views Hub
New Views is the National Theatre’s annual playwriting programme for 15-19 year olds. Each year hundreds of students from across the UK learn about playwriting from some of the finest writers in the business and write their own 30 minute plays, with one play chosen to be staged at the National Theatre in London with a professional cast. This year marks the third year the Playhouse will run the course for a group of young people in Leeds. Last year one of the young people from the New Views 2016- 2017 at the Playhouse was shortlisted by the National Theatre with their play, receiving rehearsed reading by professional actors.
This group is for individual young people looking to learn and develop their playwriting talents in free weekly sessions with professional director Tess Seddon and award-winning playwright Charley Miles. Each week the session focuses on a different part of creating a script, generating ideas and developing your voice as a writer through exercises, discussions and feedback.
The Playhouse will host a group of 15 young people between the ages of 15 – 19 with an interest in writing for theatre; perhaps transferring their writing skills from another craft, such as spoken word or music, or performers who want to try something new. The course is great fun; though writing for the stage is a challenging craft that requires time and some dedication to completing a first draft.
The West Yorkshire Playhouse Hub will meet on Thursdays from 5-7pm on the following dates:
Thursday 12 October
Thursday 19 October
Thursday 2 November
Thursday 9 November
Thursday 16 November
