In his quest to showcase the people, culture, productions, and Playhouse Connect programmes at Leeds Playhouse, Akin Famakin debuts his media campaign, Akin Meets.
Interestingly, the first episode is about Heydays, the Playhouse’s long running arts programme for older people. Barbara joined Heydays in her 50s. At 91, she’s still attending and pretty much enjoys the same creative activities she did when she joined over 30 years ago. Barbara and co. meet every Wednesday and here’s some of their insights into Heydays:
Barbara said: “Of course… all the wonderful things – the drama, the singing, the play reading, but basically, it’s the friendship’s”
Peter Pop said: “There are so many different things happening. You’re a creative writer, you want to improve on that, there’s painting, there’s arts, so many different things that people can join in…’’
Paul Atkinson said: “You get the chance to be more creative. The tutors, they really are good. They bring out the best in everybody’.
These stories are just the tip of the iceberg, listening to the whole piece will surely give the full flavour of what goes on and why you and your loved ones should join Heydays today!
